The Iffley Academy awarded the RSQM

I am so thrilled that the school we have been working with the longest - over 15 years - has just achieved the Restorative Services Quality Mark - RSQM from the Restorative Justice Council. It is the first special school in the UK to achieve this prestigious award. The other 2 schools that have the award - Monmouth Comprehensive School and Childs Hill School in Barnet - are also schools we have been proud to work with for many years. All 3 schools are such wonderful places to visit and fully deserve the Quality Mark. The restorative ethos is evident from the moment people arrive.

Using Restorative Approaches with vulnerable families on a residential programme

'The use of a wide range of restorative approaches has the potential to transform the way residential social workers, key workers and support staff engage with those they support. I have been inspired this week by the enthusiasm shown by key workers and support workers at Amber Family. This company offers a residential 12- week programme to vulnerable parents with very young children. These children, often very young babies, are initially at risk due to the problems faced by their parent or parents.

Reflections of my work at Moulton School

This week I am once again at Moulton School in Northamptonshire. This is my last visit of this school year.It has been a privilege to be here on many occasions over the year, training staff in a range of restorative approaches, supporting newly trained people as they gain confidence; facilitating actual restorative meetings to demonstrate how to do it; training a team of peer mediators who launched their new service at half term and working closely with the Deputy Head who is responsible for the whole school implementation plan.I really enjoy this kind of long-term work.

Working with a pioneering Danish School

We have had the pleasure of welcoming two groups of staff from a school in Aarhus to England in the last 3 months. They spent some time at TC Central, having a masterclass with me, (Company Director and Lead Trainer Belinda Hopkins) and were then taken to visit restorative schools we have worked with over the years by our other Lead Trainer Caroline Newton. We are grateful to Iffley Academy in Oxford, Childs Hill Primary School in Barnet and the Camden Learning Centre for their hospitality.

The visits were very successful and the vistors came away with lots to think about.

Implementing a whole-school restorative approach - lessons from the chalk-face

I have the honour to be walking alongside several schools on their journey to implement a whole-school restorative approach this academic year. The schools include a residential school for young people with emotional and behavioural difficulties, a mainstream comprehensive school, an inner – city multi-cultural multi-lingual primary school, an academy based on the philosophy of Rudolf Steiner, and a school for children with moderate and complex learning needs.
